YOUR FUTURE
IN MOBILE ADVERTISING
A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM
Ben Deleon, President of Brandel, Inc.

What I Learned At Wireless 2010

Dear Mobile Publisher,

Last March, I attended CTIA Wireless 2010 in Las Vegas, on behalf of our company, Brandel, Inc., and our network of Publishers worldwide. The event was a lot of work; but it was also social and fun.

It was an opportunity for me to learn more about the best and the latest products and ideas in the industry, and what clues they may contribute to the perennial question: "what's next in mobile?".

After all the classes, the workshops, and the meetings, I believe I did come away with a confident perspective as to where I'd like to take our business, and how Brandel, Inc. (adking.com) can enhance the opportunities of our Publishers in the immediate future of "mobile advertising".

Here's my quick take on this...
Build For The Future, Not The Past.

If you're starting a new mobile advertising business, make sure that you build your new business so that it conforms to where mobile is going, not to where mobile has been or where it is now.

As a marketing tool, mobile is a fast-moving target, with plenty of energy powered by new ideas, devices, software, and systems. So, with an eye toward the future, there are a few things you should be doing today.

Here are five points to consider.

1. Smartphones Over Low-Feature Cellphones.

As mobile accelerates into the future, you should think beyond low-feature cell phones with limited capabilities, and focus more on smartphones, where they are in the marketplace today, and how they will significantly influence the immediate future of mobile advertising.

Although a majority of consumers still use limited-feature cellphones, this scenario is expected to change very soon, especially since leading device manufacturers are shifting their production and sales efforts to market more smartphones than old-technology, low-feature cellphones.

2. Mobile is Best Served Local.

Unless you wish to join the fierce competition for big national brands with big budgets, you should consider offering your service with a "local" flavor. Local Advertisers are an underserved group that is ripe and ready for mobile advertising. They can provide your mobile advertising service with a comfortable revenue source. Mark your territory and start marketing locally.

3. Target Desirable Customers.

Focus on more savvy consumers that your advertisers deserve. Design your mobile advertising business so you can deliver more desirable consumers to your advertisers. For example, research shows that smartphone users have higher spending capabilities and have very attractive spending habits, the type of consumers most advertisers want to target.

4. Mobile Web Is HOT And Growing.

When talking about mobile advertising, it would be foolish for you to ignore the Mobile Web. With more and more smartphones and newer devices with enhanced browser capabilities coming into the market, Mobile Web browsing is growing fast. Design your business so that it is properly ported for Mobile Web. There are no ifs or buts about this: You must offer your advertisers exposure on the Mobile Web. You must be there.

5. Add Mobile APPS To Your Mix.

The iPhone home screen (where users have all their app icons) is the single most important piece of mobile real estate that is available to you to reach millions of iPhone and iPod-Touch users in any market you want.

Who would you rather get exposure on your customer's iPhone home screen? You or your competition? Mobile Apps are growing in popularity and acceptance. Owning your own advertising app puts you in an elite and exclusive level of mobile marketers who can offer App-powered Advertising. The advantages: You can offer more exposure channels to your advertisers. Plus, you can charge more for your service.

Where we can go together...

After CTIA in Las Vegas, I decided we should develop a new Mobile System that would build on the strengths of our SMS-based products, as well as add an iPhone App, Mobile Web and Regular Web Adsites to our mix.

Our newest private-label Mobile System is a comprehensive package that binds together App, Mobile Web, and Regular Web - providing you the ability to expand your mobile advertising service and grow your business so it is primed and ready for the future.

By the way, next year, CTIA will be held in Orlando, here in Florida.
Hope you can make it.

Regards,
Ben Deleon
